Mr. Matthew J. Sbalcio
NCHS Director of Bands
Mr. Matthew Sbalcio hails from Connecticut where he
graduated from Connecticut College with degrees in music education and in
music composition. During his undergraduate years he performed on several
brass instruments and piano. He actively participated as a soloist, as well
as in band, orchestra, and regional ensembles that even led to a stint on
“Good Morning America”.
After graduation he accepted the position of Director of
Instrumental Music for the town of Woodstock, CT, where he taught daily
lessons in addition to his ensemble responsibilities. He also served as a
low brass adjudicator for high school All-State Auditions. He then moved to
Arizona to teach at and attend Arizona State University in pursuit of his
Masters degrees in Music History and in Instrumental Music Education.
He is also actively working in conjunction with the Phoenix
Symphony in developing educational guides for their young persons concerts.
Mr. Sbalcio is excited to be the new Director of Bands here at North Canyon
High School.
